Curriculum vitae
Professor Dr. Ralf Kiesslich is head of the endoscopic unit at the first department of Medicine of the Johannes Gutenberg University (JGU) in Mainz, Germany.
Ralf Kiesslich graduated from JGU in 1996. In the same year he finished and gained his doctor thesis at JGU. He joined the first department of Medicine at JGU in 2000 after finishing his internship at St. Hildegardis Hospital in Mainz. He gained the Board certification of Internal Medicine 2003 and the Board Certification of Gastroenterology in 2004. The thesis of his PhD (2004) was about early recognition of early cancers with chromo- and confocal laser endoscopy.
His main research interests are new imaging modalities and new treatment options in GI endoscopy. A Memorandum of understanding between the Johns Hopkins University Baltimore (USA) and JGU was signed in 2006 based on the research activities in new imaging modalities (mini-laparoscopy, endomicroscopy). The Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute of Digestive Disease of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and JGU, was signed December 2007 and completed the strategic research alliance.
Ralf Kiesslich was promoted in 2007 receiving his personal chair and full professorship. The professorship for GI-Endoscopy at JGU was founded by Pentax Europe in 2006.
Ralf Kiesslich serves in the council of the German society of Gastroenterology and he is section editor (imaging and advanced technology) of the Journal GASTROENTEROLOGY. Ralf Kiesslich published extensively in high ranking journals and he received several prices like the Don Wilson Award (American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy) or the Martin Guelzow Award (German Society of Gastroenterology).
