Dental Clinic Location

The theoretical section of the curriculum will be located in the Dental Clinic Location.
Dental Clinic Location is located in close proximity to the facilities necessary for the success of the company. Dental Clinic Location is located in the Mainz University Hospital, home to approximately 200 dental professionals, scientists and researchers, and the Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Studies.

In addition, the proximity to the Gutenberg Health Hub (GHH) enables rapid implementation and customization of IT solutions. This extensive network not only facilitates the generation of orders but also ensures the smooth processing of very specific requests, enabling the company to operate effectively.

Research

The Oral, Maxillofacial, and Facial Plastic Surgery department at the University Medical Center Mainz has a history spanning over 70 years. It has excelled in reconstructive surgery, addressing jaw, face, and tumor-related issues. The department also focuses on dental implantology, initially established and later developed. The integration of dental and medical specialties led to the creation of an integrated clinic in 2017. As the only university facility of its kind in Rheinland-Pfalz, the clinic serves a broad catchment area while maintaining close ties with referring physicians and patients.

Clinics

The Clinic for Oral, Maxillofacial, and Facial Plastic Surgery at the University Medical Center Mainz focuses on the scientific areas of Regenerative Medicine and Oncology, addressing them from foundational research to clinical application.
The University Medical Center Mainz excels in a wide range of research activities, with a strong emphasis on collaboration with regional, national, and international partners. Notable achievements include a multitude of excellent publications, patents, and competitive funding. The center prioritizes nurturing young talent and supporting women in research. Through programs like third-party funding and open-access publishing, they aim to enhance research conditions and strengthen international competitiveness. The merger of the University Hospital and Medical Department in 2009 further integrates basic research and clinical medicine. For more details, refer to their research funding, profile, ongoing projects, and more.

Teaching

The current teaching structure involves clinically-focused presentations of medical cases in the main lecture. In the Oral, Maxillofacial, and Facial Plastic Surgery lecture, content is systematically presented with a focus on surgical methods. Lecture materials are accessible in PDF format on the ILIAS platform, and also presented in a Problem-Oriented Learning (POL) module as HTML files. Knowledge assessments are conducted through E-exams in collaboration with ZDV, allowing for evaluation of the teaching offering. Small group instruction emphasizes practical surgical skills, covering activities like blood collection, resuscitation, and suturing. Additionally, e-learning modules and lecture materials are provided to facilitate flexible and independent learning. The visually-oriented surgical content is enhanced through multimedia options

  • My experience in MKG Mainz was perhaps the most significant step in my professional career as an implantologist. Mainz, with its expert mentors provides an ideal environment to master all aspects of scientific implant dentistry. My time spent there was extremely productive, had able guidance from leading expert faculties (from the lab, through the clinics to publications), and in addition had a great time living in the city. These experiences last a life time, with life long friendship and life long scientific exchange with UniMainz. Always grateful!
