Neurosurgery at the Medical University of Mainz today continues a long tradition of minimally invasive microsurgery for the treatment of brain tumors, cerebrovascular diseases such as cavernomas, angiomas, arteriovenous fistulas and aneurysms of the cerebral arteries, spine diseases ranging from chronic back pain, disk herniation, spine fractures to complex tumors of the spinal column and spinal cord.

Neuro-oncology at the Department of Neurosurgery provides a specialized facility for the surgical removal of gliomas, meningeomas, acustic neuromas and pitutary adenomas. For malignant brain tumors such as anaplastic astrocytomas, glioblastomas, brain metastasis and other rare tumors this facility provides care trough the course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy as well as experimental treatment strategies and clinical studies.
