A major research focus of our Department is the study of disorders related to stress and affect dysregulation. By following a transdiagnostic approach to the study of psychiatric disorders, we try to overcome major problems in identifying underlying mechanisms and in developing innovative treatment approaches for affect dysregulation in disorders such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, major depressive disorders and bipolar disorders. We also follow a translational approach by collaborative work of basic and clinical neuroscientists, e.g. in the understanding of emotion regulation, impulse control or therapy response prediction.
