Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis
By participation of the outpatient clinic for coagulopathies (focus: hemorrhagic diathesis) and the research projects on thrombotic-thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), managed by Prof. Dr. med. Inge Scharrer, the Department of Internal Medicine III is part of the Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis (Centrum für Thrombose und Hämostase, CTH), founded in 2010.
The CTH is a clinically and scientifically active center pooling the expertise of various participating departments (Profilzentrum) of the University Medical Center Mainz, and addresses research on and treatment of thrombosis and hemostasis related diseases.
The CTH is a model center aiming at an improved integration of education, research and patient care from a translational focus and on this account funded by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) within the framework of the national program "Integrated Research and Treatment Centers (IFB)", as well as by the federal state government of Rhineland-Palatinate.
The CTH concept includes a novel definition of the patient care/research interface. This provides the basis for innovations in the field of health care. The focus is a rapid translation of basic research findings into clinical practice and vice versa.
