German Consortium for Translational Cancer Research
The University Medical Center Mainz is, along with the associate location Frankfurt/Main, one of seven translation-focused centers that constitute, together with the German Cancer Research Center (Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum, DKFZ) in Heidelberg, the alliance "German Consortium for Translational Cancer Research" (Deutsches Konsortium für Translationale Krebsforschung, DKTK).
The setup of the DKTK that has been established in October 2012 on the initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the involved federal states, German Cancer Aid and DKFZ is supposed to contribute essentially to an advancement of translational cancer research to international top level by pooling expertise and capacity in basic and clinical cancer research. Setup and utilization of efficient translational research units for implementable cancer research in nationwide, cross-linked cooperating locations are the consortium’s core assignments.
Cooperating locations of the DKTK are beside the core center in Heidelberg (DKFZ) and the translation-focused centers Frankfurt/Mainz the centers in Berlin, Dresden, Essen/Düsseldorf, Freiburg, Tübingen and Munich. Leading experts from 20 university and non-university institutions teamwork and do research on an equal footing and in an interdisciplinary manner within these locations.
