Chairman: Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Christoph Matthias

General Information

The Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head- and Neck Surgery (ENT) is part of the University of Mainz Medical School´s Hospital. Since April 2001 it is located in Building 102 which is a new building that meets the requirements of a modern and state of the art university hospital. It provides excellent conditions for both patient care and research.
Surgical procedures (approx. 6000 per year) are performed in 5 operating rooms that are equipped with the most recent technology of the field, e.g. laser, microscopic and computer assisted surgery. Every surgical procedure is joined by an ENT specialist (at least 5 years of practice in ENT), thus fullfilling the specialist standard. On the whole there are 80 beds available for patient care. The rooms are mostly one- or two-bed-rooms furnished and with tvs. With the exception of the intensive care unit every room includes a separate bathroom, radio and telephone connections are standard, in addition facsimile and internet connections are available at request at every bedside.
