Laboratory of Clinical and Macroscopic Anatomy

Clinical and macroscopic anatomy

The main field of interest of our research group is the clinical and macroscopic anatomy of the human body with special emphasis on dental and oral anatomy and nervous system. The aim of our research is to provide anatomical evidence for improving clinical diagnostics and treatments. Most of our research is done in close collaboration with clinical professionals and has strong translational aspects. Furthermore, we are interested in anatomical variations. We examine the phylogenetic and ontogenetic origin of variations and assess their putative function and importance for clinical practice. Recent projects include investigations of the sexual dimorphism of the central nervous system and morphometric analysis of the human brainstem and the cranial nerves. In our group, we combine gross anatomy techniques (different fixation techniques, anatomical dissections, maceration, plastination, Sihler´ staining technique) with a broad spectrum of microscopical approaches (histology, immonohistochemistry, transmission and scanning electron microscopy). Additionally, we perform biomechanical testing.

Postgraduate medical training

If you are interested to carry out postgraduate medical training courses (surgical procedures performed on human body donors), please do not hesitate to contact our group.
