International cohort study on airline personnel (COSMIC)

Airline flight personnel have a higher exposure to cosmic radiation due to their jobs. In a cohort study that has been ongoing since 1997, we are investigating occupational health risks in pilots and flight attendants in collaboration with national and international partners; the focus of the investigation is the determination of radiation-associated cancer risks.
The second follow-up of the German and 9 other international cohorts, with a total of 94,500 employees, has been completed. IMBEI is analysing the mortality of the pooled cohort.
