Pulmonary Embolism Outpatient Clinic

On the basis of important new findings from clinical and epidemiological research, the follow-up of patients who have suffered a pulmonary embolism has been optimized in recent years. The Pulmonary Embolism Outpatient Clinic of the University Medical Center Mainz offers comprehensive follow ups in order to detect possible late complications and secondary diseases of pulmonary embolism and, if necessary, to initiate targeted therapy.

Range of Services

  • Clinical, laboratory and instrumental routine diagnostic tests (e.g. ECG, echocardiography)
  • Spirometry
  • Spiroergometry (alternatively 6-minute walking test)
  • If necessary, further imaging (scintigraphy, computed tomography and magnetic resonance pulmonary angiography, right heart catheterization).

The various diagnostic examinations are performed - on an outpatient or inpatient basis - in cooperation with the Department of Cardiology I (Director: Univ.-Prof. Dr. T. Münzel) including the Angiology Section (Univ.- Prof. Dr. C. Espinola-Klein), the Clinic and Polyclinic for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology (Director: Univ.-Prof. Dr. C. Düber) and the Institute for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (Director: Univ.-Prof. Dr. K. Lackner).

The Pulmonary Embolism Outpatient Clinic is located at the Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis of the University Medical Center Mainz (UM), jointly managed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. P. Wild and Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. S. Konstantinides.
