Conflicts of interest (COI) in healthcare have increasingly gained attention in the lay press as well as among healthcare professionals. COIs, e.g. by financial ties of researchers or clinicians to pharmaceutical companies, increase the risk of undue influences on professional decision-making and may have far-reaching consequences in healthcare. Therefore, our Department has developed strategies to deal with such risk situations in order to prevent negative outcomes for patients and the health care system. Furthermore, we established a research group which investigates financial and non-financial COI in clinical medicine and research and collaborate with other researchers in the field in a research group funded by the Volkswagen-Stiftung.
