The goal of the Forensic Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic (FPA) is to reduce the risk of recidivism among convicted violent and sexual offenders. Treatment serves to prevent offenses and protect the general public.

Treatment is provided to violent and sex offenders at risk of recidivism, both with and without mental illness. Treatment is provided exclusively on the basis of a court order and takes place either following incarceration in a correctional facility or in a forensic psychiatric clinic, or as part of a suspended sentence.

The multi-professional team at the FPA carries out guideline-based psychotherapeutic or psychiatric treatment and also regularly prepares expert risk assessments and recidivism prognoses. If necessary, control measures such as blood and urine tests to check abstinence from addictive substances and drug levels can also be carried out.

The FPA Mainz is recognized and approved by both the Ministry of Justice of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Ministry of Social Affairs, Labor, Health and Demography of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is part of the network of forensic aftercare outpatient clinics of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate as well as a member of the Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Forensische Ambulanzen des Strafvollzugs (BAG-FORAS) e.V. (Federal Association of Forensic Outpatient Clinics of the Penal System).
