Research fields

One focus of my group lies on a better understanding of the physiological process ofneurogenesis in the adult mouse brain with emphasis on the lineage progression from adult neural stem cells to their neuronal and glial progeny as well as the functional integration of adult-generated neurons into the pre-existing circuit. The other focus concerns the possibility to reprogram cells endogenous to the brain, such as astroglia and pericytes of the cerebralm cortex, into distinct types of neurons as a novel approach to brain repair:

• Lineage progression of adult neural stem cells
• Integration of adult-generated neurons into pre-existing circuits
• Reprogramming of brain-resident somatic cells into neurons
