The word epidemiology has Greek origins and can be translated as: “the study of that which is on the people”. In epidemiology, populations rather than individual cases are considered. In this sense, epidemiology can be defined as the study of disease occurrences and causal factors in human populations. Epidemiology is concerned with researching the causes of diseases or health phenomenon as well as describing the frequency of diseases in the population.
