a warm welcome to the web site of the Institute for Pathobiochemistry!
As one of the institutes of the Medical School of the University Medical Center at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz we are committed to teach basic principles of natural science and molecular medicine underlying biological processes as well as the development, diagnosis and therapy of disease. To do so we offer lectures, seminars and practical courses for medical and dentistry students in biochemistry and molecular biology.
Our own scientific interest is directed towards the molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative disorders and, consequently, aging, protein homeostasis and evolutionary mechanisms creating cellular biochemistry. To figure out why most human neurodegenerative disorders are associated with age, how they are initiated and progressing we are allying molecular and cellular aspects of aging to the analysis of neurodegenerative processes. The different aspects of these key issues of our institute are investigated in three research groups (Behl Group, Pietrzik Group, Moosmann Group).
The most important informations regarding the Institute for Pathobiochemistry are assembled on the following pages. We invite you to have a look-around! Having any question or encouragement, please, do not hesitate to contact us.
