Welcome to the Gutenberg Post-COVID Study
The COVID-19 pandemic has not only given rise to a new acute illness but also to long-term consequences of previous SARS-CoV-2 infections, known as Post-COVID syndrome. The mechanisms underlying its development, as well as its diverse health and socioeconomic impacts, are complex and have not yet been sufficiently studied. However, a comprehensive understanding of this condition is essential for sound diagnosis and treatment. Against this backdrop, Mainz University Medical Center has addressed this significant research need with the interdisciplinary Gutenberg Post-COVID Study (GPC). The findings are intended to support the development of an evidence-based and interdisciplinary care model. The aim of the study was to systematically examine people who had recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection for possible effects and long-term consequences in order to gain a deeper understanding of Post-COVID syndrome.
