Prevention is Better Than Cure

The current level of knowledge about the development and progression of diseases is greater than ever before, thanks in part to modern medical and technological advances. The Department of Preventive Cardiology and Preventive Medicine at the Center for Cardiology specializes in the early detection of risks and diseases as well as the prevention of disease progression. Using modern internal medicine and cardiological diagnostics, individualized recommendations and preventive measures can be developed.

Prevention includes several levels: primary prevention aimed at avoiding cardiovascular diseases in healthy individuals, secondary prevention focused on the early detection of previously unrecognized diseases, and tertiary prevention aimed at preventing further events such as heart attacks or strokes in patients with existing conditions.

Despite major medical advances, cardiovascular diseases remain among the leading causes of illness and death in Germany and worldwide. Early identification of risk factors and targeted preventive measures are therefore essential for achieving the longest and healthiest life possible. Even in individuals with existing cardiovascular diseases, regular assessment of the current health status is important in order to optimally adjust treatment.

Preventive Medicine Services

With its comprehensive range of clinical services, Preventive Medicine provides an ideal setting for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and the ongoing management of existing conditions.

We invite you to take advantage of our Check-up Program. We also offer specialized outpatient clinics for patients with complex lipid disorders and specialized outpatient clinics for patients with difficult-to-control hypertension and special forms of hypertension.

Check-up Examinations

The early detection of health risks and diseases is a key component in maintaining your health, physical well-being, and quality of life over the long term. Our check-ups offer you structured preventive medical care at a high professional level. The focus is on a general internal medicine check-up. During this examination, we assess your current state of health, discuss individual risk factors, and use this information to develop targeted recommendations for prevention, diagnosis, or further treatment steps.
Upon request, the internal medicine check-up can be combined with examinations from other specific medical specialties. Depending on your personal concerns and medical needs, supplementary examinations in other specialties may be possible. We will coordinate and schedule the necessary appointments at the respective specialty clinics on your behalf. Our goal is a well-structured process with the shortest possible wait times. Once the examinations are complete, we will discuss the findings in detail with you. In addition, you will receive a personalized report with a summary assessment and recommendations for next steps.

At this time, we are able to offer this service exclusively to patients with private insurance and self-pay patients. Examinations are billed in accordance with the GOÄ.

Lipidology

Lipidology provides a specialized service for patients with complex lipid metabolism disorders. This outpatient clinic is intended for patients who do not achieve therapeutic target values despite lipid-lowering therapy (e.g., due to statin intolerance) or who experience progression of their cardiovascular disease despite conventional lipid-modifying treatment. In addition, as a specialized university outpatient clinic, we focus on the diagnosis and treatment of genetically determined dyslipidemias and offer the evaluation and, if appropriate, initiation of specialized therapies such as PCSK9 inhibitor therapy and lipid apheresis. The aim of our lipid clinic is to prevent the onset and progression of cardiovascular diseases in patients with complex lipid metabolism disorders through an interdisciplinary approach in the context of primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention.
