The primary goal of the Forensic Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic Mainz (FPA Mainz) is to reduce the risk of recidivism among persons convicted of a criminal offence. The treatment serves to prevent offences and thus to protect the general public.

In the area of Justizvollzug (head: Dipl.-Psych. Marcus Müller), persons are treated who have been convicted of a violent or sexual offence and who have been given a corresponding court order (order in connection with the suspension of the execution of a custodial or juvenile sentence, order within the framework of supervision of conduct, etc.). The prerequisite for admission is that the treatment has been ordered by a court in Rhineland-Palatinate or that the person is resident in Rhineland-Palatinate and that the indication for outpatient offence prevention treatment has been established in the course of an initial interview.

In the area of Maßregelvollzug (head: Dr. Sergiy Davydenko), forensic psychiatric treatment and follow-up care is provided for persons who have been placed on probation for a "Maßregel der Besserung und Sicherung" according to §§ 63,64 StGB (German Penal Code).

The multi-professional team of the FPA Mainz carries out crime prevention treatment on the basis of current scientific findings and an individually prepared treatment plan. The psychotherapeutic and psychiatric treatment measures are carried out according to guidelines. Expert criminal prognostic assessments are carried out at regular intervals.

The FPA Mainz is recognised and approved by both the Ministry of Justice of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Ministry of Social Affairs, Labour, Health and Demography of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is part of the network of specialised forensic outpatient clinics of Rhineland-Palatinate as well as an institutional member of the Federal Association of Forensic Outpatient Clinics of the Penal System (BAG-FORAS).
