The genetic analyses conducted as part of the CVSS Study are intended to help identify genetic factors that influence the risk of developing heart failure following treatment with a specific type of chemotherapy (anthracyclines). Certain genetic predispositions may increase the susceptibility of the heart muscle to damage caused by anthracycline chemotherapy. Blood samples from participants who have developed heart failure and previously received anthracycline chemotherapy are analysed for these genetic factors. To assess whether these genetic factors are associated with an increased risk of heart disease, blood samples from participants who also received anthracycline chemotherapy but have not developed heart failure are analysed and compared (case-control study).
Further genetic analyses aim to identify genetic factors that may influence the risk of developing other cardiovascular diseases or play a role in the interaction between cardiovascular disease, cancer and cancer treatment.
