Human biological materials of all kinds have been collected, stored, and used for various purposes since the beginnings of scientific medicine. Biobanks for medical research typically contain tissue samples, blood or other body fluids, as well as cells or DNA samples of human origin.
The BioBank of the University Medical Center Mainz (BBM) provides a collection of biological samples and associated data in a structured and analyzable format. Services for the storage of biological samples at the University Medical Center Mainz are provided by two biobanks: the Biobank for Liquid and Cellular Biomaterials of Preventive Medicine and the Tissue Biobank of the Institute of Pathology.
The BBM is committed to the responsible handling of the biological material entrusted to it and to protecting the personal rights of donors. The aim of BioBank Mainz is to contribute to improving healthcare for the population.
