Division of Paediatric Epidemiology

Welcome to the website of the Division of Paediatric Epidemiology!

Paediatric epidemiology is a medical discipline concerned with the frequency, distribution, causes, and consequences of diseases among infants, children, and adolescents at the population level.

Unlike clinical paediatrics, its primary focus is not the individual child with a health condition, but the health of entire age groups and populations affected by specific conditions.

As a relatively young discipline, paediatric epidemiology sits at the interface between paediatrics and adolescent medicine, child and adolescent psychiatry, developmental neurology and social paediatrics, child public health, as well as health services and educational research.

Across three main research areas, our division investigates the distribution, causes, and consequences of health conditions and chronic diseases, as well as healthcare delivery and prevention in childhood and adolescence. In addition, we develop and maintain medical registers for health conditions affecting children and adolescents.
