01.10.2025 We warmly congratulate medical student Lennart Paulsen and PhD student Aleksandra Lopez Krol on receiving funding from the Else Kröner Graduate School ImmunYoAge (“The IMMUNsysteme – YOung versus AGed”), part of the Mainz Research School of Translational Medicine (TransMed). Within this highly interdisciplinary program, the two will form a research tandem at the Institute for Medical Microbiology and Hygiene. Their joint project will explore how changes in the microbiome affect the function of regulatory T cells during ageing, with the goal of uncovering mechanisms that contribute to immune imbalance in later life. By bringing together a medical perspective and scientific expertise, the tandem embodies the translational and collaborative spirit of ImmunYoAge. The project will be guided by Prof. Tim Sparwasser (IMMH), with co-supervision by Dr. Daniele Nascimento (IMMH) and Prof. José Alves-Filho (University of São Paulo) as well as additional mentoring by Prof. André Gessner (University of Regensburg). The funding includes a stipend for Lennart Paulsen as well as resources for research expenses and travel, ensuring excellent conditions for this collaboration and enabling the project to run until December 2026.
