In the Mainz Comprehensive Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine Center (MCESC), patients with epilepsy receive special care and counseling. The Epilepsy Center has been certified by the German Society for Epileptology (DGfE) both in outpatient and inpatient settings.
The Outpatient Department for Epilepsy is a part of the Mainz Comprehensive Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine Center and is responsible for outpatient care and optimization of therapy for patients with epilepsy. This includes special clarification in cases of suspected epilepsy and the long-term care of epilepsy. In particular, patients with complex, difficult-to-treat cases are treated. In addition, the indications for vagus nerve stimulation and pre-surgical epilepsy diagnostics are performed in the Outpatient Department.
On an inpatient basis, complex diagnostic cases are investigated within the framework of the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), including pre-surgical diagnostics. Patients with difficult-to-treat epilepsy can also receive optimization of therapy under inpatient conditions.
Within the scope of the Mainz Comprehensive Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine Center, we are cooperating with various departments of the University Medical Center of Mainz to optimize the care of patients with epilepsy. Our cooperation partners are mainly the Department of Neurosurgery and the Department of Neuroradiology.
