NUM-Project B-FAST / NUM-project B-FAST
Kooperationsprojekt der Abteilung für Hygiene und Infektionsprävention und des Instituts für medizinische Biometrie, Epidemiologie und Informatik / Cooperation project between the Department of Hygiene and Infection Prevention and the Institute for Medical Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics

The aim of the 'Nationwide Research Network "Applied Surveillance and Testing"' (B-FAST) of the Network University Medicine (NUM) is to better control the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and any other pandemics through an optimal test and surveillance strategy. To this end, new infections and sources of entry should be recorded at an early stage and infectious patients, their contacts and the resulting sources of infection should be promptly identified. Hospital infections and work-related illnesses could be better avoided, especially in the critical infrastructure. The project is processed in seven stages. The Department for Hygiene and Infection Prevention and the Institute for Medical Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics are involved in stage 3, which aims to develop a surveillance strategy in cooperation with other university clinics. After the development of a recording system, it will be checked for effectiveness in individual university hospitals in a roll-out. Both university medical facilities are participating in this roll-out.
