The course provides an introduction to mass spectrometry-based metabolomics. Topics include a general overview of the technology and examples of successful applications where metabolomics has been used to complement biochemical or clinical research and typical scenarios in biochemical research projects where metabolomics can be a useful next step. We cover the main considerations when planning experiments, show various analytical strategies depending on the aim of projects (e.g. metabolic profiling vs. targeted analysis vs. isotope tracers) and common data analysis strategies. The course is complemented with practical demonstrations of LC-MS measurements and common data analysis strategies.
