Internal Medicine & Cardiology

Our examinations begin with a detailed interview on the general medical history as part of basic and cardiovascular prevention. After that, there will be an internal physical examination as well as extensive laboratory diagnostics of generally relevant internal parameters including a large lipid profile, determination of the vitamin D level, infectiological diagnostics (e.g. hepatitis serology and, if desired, HIV testing) and determination of the PSA level for men. A urine analysis will also be performed.

Furthermore, a determination of body measurements (anthropometry), extensive measurements of vital parameters (blood pressure and heart rate at rest and under stress, neuro-vegetative regulation), a 12-channel resting ECG and a test of lung function are planned. Additionally, the carotid arteries are examined by ultrasound and the thickness of the vessel wall (intima-media thickness) and probing deposits (plaques) will be determined. The peripheral vessels of the legs are examined for possible narrowing (peripheral arterial occlusive disease) through Doppler examination and determination of the ankle-brachial index.

Also, an echocardiographic examination of the heart is performed at rest as well as under stress. The latter will preferably be performed on a bicycle ergometer if you are physically fit enough. If this is not possible, stress echocardiography is performed under intravenous medication (dobutamine). On the basis of long-term examinations of blood pressure and ECG, dysrhythmia or arterial hypertension can be ruled out. In case of abnormalities, we will transfer you to the corresponding areas. At the end of your health examination, all findings will be discussed with you in detail and a detailed report will be provided.
