Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology

Nowadays, modern diagnostic procedures allow for precise early detection of changes in anatomical structures and functions. The Radiology Department of Mainz University Hospital offers comprehensive diagnostics of all body structures thanks to state-of-the-art technical equipment combined with the highest expertise and extensive experience of our specialist teams. The early detection of breast cancer plays a crucial role in prevention. Depending on age and risk factors, we offer women a full-field digital mammography with minimum patient dose. All mammography images are evaluated by two examiners (double evaluation). In case of abnormalities, extended breast imaging diagnostics and minimally invasive biopsy procedures can provide a detailed evaluation. For this purpose, for example, an MRI examination of the breast or the gentle collection of tissue through X-ray guided stereotactic biopsy are available. If the function and anatomy of the heart are to be examined radiologically, we perform cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computer tomography (coronary CT). The high spatial resolution of the MRI allows the display of a large tissue contrast and therefore a very good imaging of the anatomical structures. The coronary CT particularly provides information on the condition of the vessels in the heart. Should further diagnostic examinations become necessary throughout the course of the preventative checkups, the four locations of our department at the University Medical Center Mainz offer the latest diagnostic procedures, in particular digital X-ray examinations including functional diagnostics as well as MRT and CT/PET-CT examinations.
