Laboratory Medicine

The Institute for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine supports the clinical facilities with a comprehensive spectrum of modern laboratory analysis. Many risk factors remain undetected for many years because they do not cause symptoms. Some of the best examples are disorders of fat metabolism, blood sugar regulation or kidney function. However, simple laboratory tests can provide information on the causes of digestive problems, rheumatic problems or chronically reduced performance.
The responsible and purposeful use of laboratory diagnostics represents an important pillar of preventive medicine and the early detection of diseases. Therefore, we work closely with our clinical colleagues in order to design an examination program that is customized to each individual patient, based on the patient's medical history as well as any family history and the results of the physical examination.
The spectrum of examinations ranges from simple analyses of fat metabolism or kidney function to the examination of more complex disorders such as hormonal disorders, the supply of vitamins and trace elements and food intolerances, to complex examinations of family predispositions to disease.
