Who is the target audience for the postgraduate Master?
The postgraduate Master's programme is aimed at individuals with a university degree and relevant professional experience (e.g. medicine, natural sciences, social sciences, health sciences, biostatistics, bioinformatics) who wish to further their academic qualifications in epidemiology.
What documents do I need to submit?
The complete application must be sent by email to the programme coordinator and includes:
- Letter of motivation
- Curriculum vitae
- Degree certificate
- Proof of at least one year of professional experience, e.g. employment references
- Proof of English language skills
- Copy of recognition certificate of foreign degree (if applicable)
Does my foreign degree have to be recognised?
Yes. The recognition certificate is mandatory and has to be carried out before applying for the master programme. Without recognition documents, the application cannot be accepted. Recognition is carried out via the following website: Recognition – Studying
How much does it cost to have foreign degrees recognised?
Currently (02/2026), the cost is €60.
When should I start the recognition process?
As early as possible. Delays in the recognition process may mean that an application cannot be completed by the deadline.
Can I apply while the recognition process is still ongoing?
No. There is no provisional application and no exceptions. In case of delays, you should contact Student Services directly, as they are responsible for tracking the processing status.
What happens if my recognition is delayed?
Then the application cannot be completed. It is strongly recommended that you start the recognition process early.
Is there an application deadline?
Yes. The deadline is 30 August for the programme starting in October.
How much are the tuition fees?
The fees are €7,000 for the entire programme.
Payment in four instalments is possible:
- €2,500 by 15 September
- €1,500 by 1 February
- €1,500 by 1 July
- €1,500 by 1 February of the following year
If you pay in one lump sum, you will receive a discount of 3%, i.e. the total amount will be € 6,790.
How does the selection process work?
After reviewing the documents, suitable applicants are invited to an online interview with the programme director.
Can I receive credit for courses taken in another Master's programme?
No. It is not possible to receive credit or enter a higher semester.
Does the programme offer any scholarships?
The M.Sc. Epidemiology programme does not offer any scholarships.
What type of visa should I apply for?
Students from most countries outside the European Union will require a student visa. We strongly advise you to contact the German embassy and/or consulate in your country of residence to ensure that you apply for the correct type of visa specific to your situation. Please make sure to check well in advance what the exact entry permit regulations applicable to your nationality are.
Common misunderstandings
Can I at least start the application process without recognition?
No. Without a certificate of recognition, your application will not be processed.
Can the programme coordinator check the status of my recognition?
No. Only the Student Services department is responsible for this.
Is it possible to enter a higher semester?
No. It is not possible to have entire semesters recognised or to enter a higher semester.
Can academic achievements already completed be recognised?
Individual academic achievements in other degree programmes can be recognised upon request. The prerequisite is that the content is equivalent in terms of subject matter. The programme director will examine this in detail.
