Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m) – Neuroscience - (TVL EG 13 / 100%)

For the research group of the Institute of Pathophysiology, headed by Prof. Dr. Jakob von Engelhardt, we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher.

Our group investigates the physiology and the molecular basis of neuronal communication. A major research focus is the analysis of the role of glutamate receptors and of proteins that interact with the receptors in synaptic transmission and network activity (von Engelhardt et al., Science 2010, Khodosevich et al., Neuron 2014, Farrow et al., eLife 2015, Chen et al., Nature Communication 2018). Our research focuses on the role of glutamate receptor mediated transmission in neuronal function (e.g. synaptic plasticity, see von Engelhardt et al., Neuron 2008). To this end, we analyze different transgenic and knockout mouse lines as well as cell-cultures using various state-of-the-art techniques including in vitro and in vivo electrophysiology, molecular biology, protein biochemistry and microscopy.

The lab offers an excellent infrastructure in a unique research environment in Mainz. This includes opportunities for collaborations with research groups of the Focus Program Translational Neurosciences (FTN) of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the Rhine-Main Neuroscience Networks (rmn2).

The candidate should have a doctoral degree in natural sciences and a strong background in neuroscience as well as related technical skills. Experience in molecular biology and/or electrophysiology and/or in vivo imaging is required. He/She should be a team player interested in interdisciplinary research and able to work independently. Furthermore, successful applicants will be involved in teaching (physiology for medical students) and supervision of students.

For further information, please contact  Prof. Dr. Jakob von Engelhardt.

The position will begin on 01.04.2019 and lasts for a two-year period with the possibility of extension. Employment, payment and social benefits are determined by the Public Sector Collective Agreement (TVL EG 13 / 100%). The job location is Mainz, Germany.
