Outcome Research

The Outcome Research group examines the influence of fetal and early childhood factors on the health, development, and well-being of children and adolescents.

We use primary and secondary data and causal inference methods to investigate etiological and policy-relevant questions in collaboration with researchers from statistics, clinical medicine, health promotion, and psychology. The focus is on school health, obesity, and perinatal risk factors.

Ongoing projects

ikidS

The ikidS project (ikidS: ich komme in die Schule [German]; I am starting school) is a cohort study in the city of Mainz and the Mainz-Bingen district. The study has enrolled 2003 children who entered school in 2015/16 and their families. The most recent survey in 2021 examined the influence of chronic diseases on the psychosocial burden of school children and their families during the Corona pandemic (principal investigator: Prof. Michael Urschitz).

3G Multigenerational Study

The 3G Multigenerational Study is a population-based retrospective cohort of women, their mothers, and their children in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. The study examines pregnancy outcomes within the maternal line over three generations (principal investigators: Dr. Christy Woolcott, Dalhousie University, Halifax/Canada and Stefan Kuhle).
