Platform 2

Cardiovascular Function

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) like myocardial infarction, venous thromboembolism and arterial hypertension with its end organ damages are the leading causes of mortality and morbidity world wide. As one of its central aims, CTH is dedicated to investigate the roles of inflammation and coagulation in the pathogenesis of CVD. The platform lab „cardiovascular function“ comprises mouse models of arterial hypertension (angiotensin II infusion), of venous and arterial thrombosis (vena cava inferior ligation, LAD ligation for induction of myocardial infarction and ischemia-reperfusion-injury), high frequency ultrasound imaging of vasculature and cardiac function (visual sonics, vevo 770) in B-mode, M-Mode and Doppler mode and functional analysis of vascular endothelial and smooth muscle function (Isometric tension studies, AD instruments organ bath and powerlab).
