Dr. Yasmine Belkaid obtained her Ph.D. in 1996 on innate responses to Leishmania infection from the Pasteur Institute in France. Her postdoctoral fellowship at NIAID was focused on immune regulation during infection. Afterwards she joined the Children's Hospital Research Foundation in Cincinnati as an assistant professor. She joined the Laboratory of Parasitic Diseases at NIAID in 2005 and was appointed senior scientist in 2008. Currently she is the chief of the mucosal immunology section in the laboratory of Parasitic diseases at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Her laboratory aims to understand the mechanisms controlling host microbe interactions at barrier sites such as the skin and the gut.
