Introductory Workshop in R

This workshop takes place in cooperation with the Research Center for Immunotherapy (FZI) and the CRC 1292

Course description:
In this course, you will get a basic introduction into the programming language R, which is highly useful for scientific programming. No prior programming experience is required. During lectures and extensive hands-on sessions, you will learn the most important facets of the language. In addition, we will put a special focus on how you can teach yourself new features in case you want to use R for some more sophisticated analyses.

Topics:

  • First steps: Commands and variables; using the RStudio interface
  • More complex structures: Loops and conditionals
  • Reading and writing files with R
  • Working with data frames
  • Visualizations with R (ggplot2)
  • Statistics with R
  • Working with R packages

Target audience: All-qualification-level (bio-)medical researchers from TransMed, the FZI and CRC 1292; beginners in R 

Number of participants: Max. 30 participants

Next wokshop: September 15-17, 2025, 9.00 am - 5.00 pm in the lecture hall of building 207, UMC Mainz

Technical requirements: Participants need to bring their own laptop on which the R program has been installed in advance. Instructions for doing so will be sent after registration to the course.

For the workshop, 3 CP for scientific skills can be credited.
